In 2018 the old concrete toilet block was finally condemed as structurally unsafe. It had been hoped that the new Amenities Building would have been completed by the time this happened, but this was not the case. A decision had to be made on the best way forward to ensure that adequate facilities were available to keep the Campsite operational. A number of options were considered and it was finally agreed that the best way forward was to install some fully-fitted container units as a temporary measure. The configuration was decided upon, one male unit and one femal unit which comprised as a Leaders section and a YP's section as well as a separate Accessible unit which included a shower cubicle.
The units were purchased at a cost of some £40,000 and work started on site preparation. The old block had to be removed by outside contractors and the footings prepared to take the new units. Once the units were in place the task of linking the water, electric and waste were undertaken by a local company MJT, Gareth Floyd was our main contact. Access steps had to be installed and this was again handled by MJT. The space between the two container units was put to good use when a "Crew Room" was constructed by the Pinsent Team. We now had somewhere to keep the kettle and tea and coffee for our well-earned breaks.
Finally the fencing was erected to enclose the area. This was also erected by the Pinsent Team.
It is hoped that these units will not be required for too long and will be replaced by the new amenities building in the near future.
